Email Marketing

BY LEAH YOUNG

Newsletters that People Want to Read.

There are many reasons to send out a newsletter.  The biggest being that is a conversation starter.  Newsletters are the foundational building blocks of small business marketing.

A good mailing will not try to make a hard sale.  A good mailing will inform, educate, entertain and enlighten.   And I promise you that one thoughtful value added message with an attractive and simple design will beat sending out volumes of "buy now" messages.  A newsletter should give people what they want.

It might be tempting to start self promoting as making sales pitches in your newsletter, but you're better off taking an informative approach and making only soft sales pitches if any at all.

Bring it On Home.

There is no reason to not use your newsletter to drive traffic back to your site.  It's a good feeling to see your site traffic spike after sending out a newsletter.

40/20/20 Rule

There is a long-established axiom well embraced in the marketing industry and it is well applied to email marketing:

  • 40% of a campaign's success comes from the list (clean, deliverable and well targeted for your offer.
  • 40% of a campaign's success comes from the offer itself.  What are you giving as a gift in return for a response?
  • 20% of a campaign's success comes from the creativity used to compose the email.

Ask me about list building and management, how to create a great offer, and strategies for creative delivery.

Keep It Sustainable

Now and then you might want to put together an offer in your newsletter that will really razzle-dazzle your subscribers like a fancy PDF or amazing offer.  But your newsletter doesn't always need to be a time consuming endeavor.  Curated Newsletters have become increasingly popular and are a quick and easy way to give your readers valuable  information.
